Explore the Wisdom Within

Body Liberation Dance

A Journey of Self-Discovery to Unearth the Truth that Lies Within

Body Liberation Dance is a freeform dance and movement that takes us on a journey of self-discovery to unearth the Truth that lies within and to be in our own creative experience. By engaging our senses and listening to our bodies, we break free of our chains, drop our mask and melt together in movement and breath.

Through somatic embodiment, we ground our energy to create an anhor to arrive within and orient to our space. To drop into our body to express, release and  flow with every single part of our being. We give our body permission to be present, to show up without conditions so we can connect to a deeper wisdom.

We then move through a process of unlearning all the lies we told ourselves and our belief systems. We have learned to stifle our emotions and contort ourselves to fit within the acceptable emotional range of our community, culture and society. I want you to discover the increased quality of life that is available to you when you release what you have been holding onto.

When we are able to let go, the natural flow of life dances us. We move to escape from our burden, pain and suffering. We move to become WHO WE ARE meant to be.

“When we dance together we are building a community. We become companions on the same journey and no one is a stranger any longer. Dancing in a group allows individuals in the group to form a union with one another to momentarily drop the barriers of individualism the ego’s self-consciousness and the fear of separateness”.

Body Liberation Dance is a none structured dance space. The music is the leader and participants are free to weave and move in whatever ways is calling to them.

Through dance, we can discover, unleash, and enhance our  potential to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. We can come to know our whole selves, even parts of ourselves that’s frightened. This is the dance you dance when nobody is watching. Allowing your body to move freely without judgments or concerns for the “grace” or beauty of the dance, just getting lost in the dance into a space of no-mind.

Body Liberation Dance is an inner/outer journey, an authentic moving meditation where true Presence is experienced. It creates a direct body-mind-spirit connection, allowing our body and inner guide to be our own teachers. It’s about being fully present, transparent and real with oneself, discovering our own true dance, using this movement and energetic experience to release stuck patterns in our bodies, emotions and mind and being able to experience true union with the divine as One. The intention is to create a healing journey. So, come as you are. No dance experience or partner is necessary or needed.

We are not striving for perfection. It’s not about being graceful, having great lines or being pretty. Movement enables each of us to access a part of ourselves that is whole. So we allow our movement to be whatever needs to be expressed outward. Scream, jump, run, fall, cry, stomp, turn, twist, pulse, shake, crawl or roar. Movement is a way to connect deeply and authentically to the full range of human emotion.

I was very excited and a little nervous to try Body Liberation Dance with Oyámie. But from her personality to the playlist, to the space that she held, I felt supported and safe to move my body; to freely express myself. I have participated in workshops with oyámie several times and each time I learn something remarkable about myself.
